Rabota nad zhitijami svjatyh byla nachata 6 maja 1684 goda i prodolzhalas' v techenie 20 let. Vera, Nadezhda, Ljubov' i mater' ih Sofija— hristianskie svjatye, pochitaemye v like muchenic. Zhili vo II veke v Rime (um. 137). Pamjat' sovershaetsja v Pravoslavnoj cerkvi 17 sentjabrja (po julianskomu kalendarju).
